				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As part of the Cinema department&#8217;s Visiting Artist series, Jonathan Walley will be giving lecture on Tuesday, April 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 6.   Walley is a professor of Cinema at Denison University, specializing in experimental and avant-garde film. He focuses in particular on &#8220;expanded cinema&#8221; (multi-screen works,  film-based performance, film/video installation, paracinema, etc.)  The Libraries own a book with contributions by Professor Walley, listed below.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Roger Ebert, famed film critic of the <em>Chicago Sun-Times</em>, the television shows, <em>Sneak Previews </em>and <em>Siskel &amp; Ebert At the Movies</em>, (among others), founder of the Ebertfest film festival, author of numerous books, blog writer, and co-writer of the the camp classic <em>Beyond the Valley of the Dolls</em>, died last week. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span>The Dardenne brothers&#8217; (Luc &amp;  Jean-Pierre) 2011 film, <em>Kid With a Bike</em> will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 11, in LH-6 as part of the Harpur Cinema film series. The Friday showing will be introduced by Professor Chantal Rodais.  Inspired, in part, by the famous Italian neo-realism film  <em>The Bicycle Thieves, </em>the plot centers around a boy searching for his stolen bicycle, who longs to find the father who abandoned him. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Famed French filmmaker and multimedia artist Chris Marker (born Christian François Bouche-Villeneuve) died this week at the age of 91.  Marker&#8217;s work included <em>La Jetee</em> (inspiration for the film <em>12 Monkeys</em>), <em>San Soleil</em>, and <em>A Grin Without a Cat</em>. His work had a huge impact on experimental film and documentaries. In addition to film, he worked with video installations, the internet, and other forms of technology. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Alain Resnais&#8217; 2009 film, <em>Wild Grass</em> will be shown on campus April 20 &amp; 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 6, as part of the <a href="http://www2.binghamton.edu/cinema/harpur-film.html">Harpur Cinema</a> film series. The Friday showing will be introduced by Professor Vincent Grenier of the Cinema Department.  <em>Wild Grass</em> is the romantic story of Georges, Marguerite, and the vagaries of fate brought on by a lost wallet. It won a special award at the Cannes Film Festival.  Other famed films by Resnais include the holocaust documentary, <em>Night and Fog</em>, <em>Last Year at Marienbad</em>, <em>Hiroshima Mon Amour</em>, and <em>Mon Oncle D&#8217;Amerique</em>.
