Changes in the Libraries This Summer
Microforms, A/V and Reserves Move
This past summer, the Microform Collection and equipment (formerly located on the third floor of Bartle Library), and Audiovisual and Reserves Collections and services were relocated to the Newcomb Reading Room in Bartle Library. The move will allow us to provide more direct and better service for the use of our Microform collection and will accommodate the increase in the use of our print course reserve and audio visual materials. Staff working at the Newcomb Reading Room Service Desk are available to help with reserve materials, locate microform material and use the equipment. The newspapers and current journals are also located in the Newcomb Reading Room. The photocopier from the Bartle reference area was moved to the Newcomb Room to facilitate copying of course reserves material and articles from current journals. The Newcomb Room is located in the north end of Bartle Library near the Coffee Kiosk.
For more information on when the Libraries are open, see the posted hours.
Collections moved to Library Annex@Conklin
Binghamton University Libraries are dedicated to preserving our print collections, which continue to grow at a rate of over 23,000 items per year. In order to house our newly acquired and cataloged materials, this summer we identified a number of low use materials in the Bartle and Science Libraries which were moved to our Library Annex@Conklin. The goals of the moving project were to alleviate crowded stack areas and to create adequate growth space, which in turn supports long-term, steady growth of the library collection. Materials selected were chosen in consultation with subject librarians. Materials included large multivolume sets as well as bound volumes of journals available in electronic format.
The Library Annex@Conklin offers an electronic desktop delivery service, a public reading room open 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Friday and a delivery service to Bartle, Science and the Downtown Center. More information about the Library Annex.
