International Literacy Festival - November 21

Crossroads, a Binghamton international literary festival, will take place at 2 p.m. Sat., Nov. 21, at the Bundy Museum, 127-129 Main St., Binghamton. The day of poetry and narrative readings will feature 16 authors from eight countries, including Bolivia, Chile, Italy, Spain and Argentina. BU writers taking part include Diego Trelles Paz, Joe Weil, Leslie Heywood, Mario Moroni and Maria Mazziotti Gillan.

Judaic Studies Sponsors Speaker on Hasidism

Glenn Dynner, associate professor of religious studies at Sarah Lawrence College, will speak on "The Rise of Hasidism: New Research and New Directions" from 4:45-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in LN-2401. Dynner is the author of "Men of Silk: The Hasidic Conquest of Polish Jewish Society," published by Oxford University Press in 2006. Sociology Seminar Series to Focus on China

Xiaoxi Tong of the Sociology Department, Chinese Agricultural University in Beijing, and visiting research fellow in sociology, will present “Popular Contentions in the History of the People’s Republic of China: Cycles, Repertoires, and Transformations” at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the Fernand Braudel Center, AA-330.

The seminar is co-sponsored by the Fernand Braudel Center.

Anderson Center Presents Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company

The Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company brings an ethnic folk treasure to the Anderson Center stage at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. With 80 dancers and musicians performing 16 dances rooted in Ukrainian tradition and infused with influences from ballet, step and Broadway. Judaic Studies Co-Sponsors Lecture

Onur Yildirim, visiting faculty member in history, will present a lecture titled "Jews in Ottoman Economic Life during the Early Modern Period" at the Jewish Community Center, 500 Clubhouse Road, Vestal, at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. The cost for the program is $8, adults; $5, seniors. Binghamton University students are invited to attend free of charge.
